Can I get my things back if they don’t sell? I have heard that you are picky about what you accept. Are you? If I don’t pick up, what happens to my things? How much will you price my things? Can I pick up my things before they go on sale? How do you keep track of my things? Do you ever have clearance sales? Is there a fee to become a consignor?
Smart shoppers have discovered resale shops and you should too. Here are a few reasons why:
Yes, we’re pretty selective. Our customers have come to expect the best quality at Refinery. They do not want to have to wade through lots of undesirable things to get to a few nice things. They constantly tell us how grateful they are for the kind of shop we have. As a consignor, your first-rate consignments will look and sell better surrounded by other high quality items.
We can buy outright, but you will make more money if you consign your items. Our split is 50/50 on consignments. If we buy outright, the payment will have to be lower because we must factor in the possibility of not selling an item or selling it on sale. After explaining this to most people, they choose to consign.
As an established consignor, you have the option of making an appointment or using Drop & Run. Most of our consignors love the convenience of dropping off their items whenever we’re open. They do not have to wait while we check through them (often being interrupted by phone calls or sales). It’s fast and easy. Just fill out your paperwork following the instructions at the Drop & Run desk. We will get to your things ASAP (usually within 24 hours). We hold any no-thank-yous for one week.
Of course! You must contact us before your expiration date and request that we note on our calendar that you want to pick up your unsold items. We will gather them on your expiration date and hold them for one week.
On the day after your expiration date, they become the property of Refinery. We donate some to Paralyzed Veterans and try to fill specific requests for needy families. Since hurricane Katrina, we have also donated proceeds from one 50% off rack of expired items. In the first year, we are proud and thrilled to have given over $1000.00 to various charities!
Yes. Generally, your consignment will be reduced 25% for two weeks before it expires. Our sales are brisk and our turnover is fast. We have a storewide 25% off sale for two weeks in January and July. Occasionally, to increase interest in a particular area, we may have a short term 10% off sale. This is rare. Fact: One of the most important techniques of successful merchandising is timely reductions.
Unfortunately, no. All consignors’ benefit from our merchandising techniques. To allow one consignor to do this would not be fair to the other consignors.
We use a computer program especially designed for consignment shops. Every consignor has their own account. All items are entered in the computer and tags are printed with numbers identifying the consignor and item. At any time, we can tell with a keystroke, how your things are selling and how much money you have earned. We are also very organized.
We have two big sales each year. For 2 weeks in January and July we have a 25% off storewide sale.
No, REfinery charges no fees to consignors. We have a small buyers fee on some items, which has no effect on consignor splits. |
